Hairie, who starred alongside local actresses such as Erra Fazira and Maya Karin, recently spoke at a gathering organised by the Islamic party in Batu Gajah.
Hairie attributed his decision to join PAS to his "new-found conscience", saying Islam and politics cannot be separated.
"If I think of worldly gains, I would not have come to the decision to join this struggle. But I am prepared to take the risks because, after all, sustenance is from God, not BN," he said.
Hairie said many local entertainers had been forced to join UMNO due to pressure on their careers.
Hairie also questioned a remark by International Trade and Industry minister Mustapa Mohamed who criticised local artists who recently joined opposition parties.
The Kedah-born actor said it was time Muslims embrace the struggle for Islam and abandon parties that subscribe to narrow nationalism.
"I will together join hands and help in the mission to capture Putrajaya," added Hairie.
Several Malay entertainment icons have recently announced their membership in opposition parties, including singer Aishah and comedian Bob Lokman who joined PAS and Dayangku Intan who joined PKR.
