KUALA LUMPUR: There was no mistaking the patriotic spirit of the thousands of Malaysians at the Ambang 2011 concert here last night. The concert, presented by the AmBank Group in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City Hall, was held at Dataran Merdeka with the aim of promoting unity among the people.

Thousands of people ushered in the New Year with Ambank Group chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim.

They later listened to recorded speeches by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.
The Ambang 2010 concert featured artistes such as Mizz Nina, Amy Search, M. Nasir, rock band Estranged, Malaysian Idol 2 winner Daniel Lee, Datuk David Arumugam, Ramlah Ram and pop rock band Pop Shuvit entertaining the crowd with upbeat music and dance moves.

The Bhangra group Gold Kartz, song-and-dance group The Singing Shop as well as the City Hall orchestra also performed at the concert.

The dazzling show of fireworks to usher in the New Year at midnight was followed by several more performances. A final number with all the artistes on stage, brought the concert to an end.
