Case to be re-mentioned 2010/12/17

BANTING: The case involving four men charged with the murder of cosmetics queen Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya and three others will be re-mentioned at the Telok Datok magistrate's court on Jan 27. Magistrate Hurman Hussain fixed the date after deputy public prosecutor Ishak Mohd Yusoff asked for an adjournment following two related applications pending at the Shah Alam High Court.

"All the necessary reports are ready but there are two applications pending at the High Court and those should be disposed of first before the matter today is transferred to the High Court for trial," he said.

N. Pathmanabhan, 41, and his three farm hands -- T. Thilaiyalagan, 19, R. Matan, 20, and R. Kathavarayan, 30 -- are charged with the murder of Sosilawati, 47, CIMB bank officer Noorhisham Mohamad, 38, lawyer Ahmad Kamil Abdul Karim, 32, and driver Kamaruddin Shansuddin, 44, at a farm in Jalan Tanjung Layang, Tanjung Sepat here, between 8.30pm and 9.45pm on Aug 30.
The two applications pending at the High Court involved two other accused -- K. Sarawanan and U. Suresh -- who were sentenced to seven years' jail after they pleaded guilty to disposing of evidence in the murders.

The revision application brought up by the court's own motion and the appeal filed by Sarawanan will be heard on Jan 10.

Sarawanan, 19, had earlier admitted to burning the bodies of the four victims in Jalan Tanjung Layang between 8.30pm and 9.45pm on Aug 30, and Suresh, 26, to throwing the ashes into Sungai Panchau, Jalan Morib here, between 8am and 10am the next day.

After the proceedings yesterday, the defence and prosecution teams visited the farm.
