Korean slugger Lee Seung-yeop has vowed a return to form in the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), aiming for more than 30 homers and over 100 RBIs next season, Thursday.
The new Orix Buffaloes batter who moved from the Yomiuri Giants after a disappointing year is also looking to make the Giants regret releasing him.
“I would first like to thank the Buffaloes for giving me the opportunity to continue my NPB career,” Lee said at a press conference in Seoul.
“I want to show my new team that their decision wasn’t wrong.”
“While I appreciate the Giants for having me for the past five years, I’m also eager to show that sending me to the minor league this season was a mistake,” he added.
The first-baseman has a batting average of .267 along with 144 homers and 388 RBIs in the NPB since his debut in 2004.
Lee joined the Giants in 2006, when he recorded a .323 batting average and blasted 41 home runs and 108 RBIs. The impressive performance in his first year with the Giants led to a bumper deal, a 3 billion-yen agreement for four years.
However he slumped this year, struggling with injury and conceded his position. He was even relegated to the minor league. Lee’s overall season record was extremely low, finishing with a .163 batting average, five home runs, and 11 RBIs.
